This article describes the problems of former Ethiopian soldiers with their reintegration into civil life. During an anthropological fied study, 60 excombatants were interviewed. They reportedfeeling frustrated about the lack f interest in their living conditions on the part of the Ethiopian public and Ethiopian and Western Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs). They felt that they had no future perspective. Some of them admitted knowing former sodiers who had contacted HIV/AIDS, or who were guilty of criminal violence.

Er is voor nabestaanden van de omgekomen passagiers van de vliegramp boven Oekraïne een online Informatie en Verwijs Centrum (IVC) opengesteld.

Dit IVC biedt nabestaanden en andere betrokkenen een startpunt met adviezen en tips in deze moeilijke periode.

Er is een openbaar deel met informatie en een besloten deel voor de nabestaanden.

Op 17 juli is vlucht MH17 (Malaysia Airlines) neergestort in Oekraïne op weg van Amsterdam naar Kuala Lumpur. Aan boord waren 283 passagiers en 15 bemanningsleden. Onder de passagiers zijn zeker 193 Nederlanders. Informatie van de overheid over de ramp wordt hier verzameld. De informatie wordt voortdurend aangevuld.

Nederland selecteert Syrische vluchtelingen op hun geschiktheid om te integreren. Mag je vluchtelingen keuren?

Nederland neemt vanaf deze week 250 Syrische vluchtelingen op.[...]
De kleine groep die in Nederland wordt toegelaten, heeft een strenge asielprocedure doorlopen. Van de 500 vluchtelingen die de UNHCR aan de Nederlandse instanties voorgelegde, is de helft afgevallen. De vluchtelingen werden ondervraagd over hun opleiding en arbeidsverleden. Ook volgden ze alvast een inburgeringcursus. Volgens de IND gaat het om 'de potentie die iemand heeft om te integreren'.

Gemeenten hebben een belangrijke rol te vervullen bij de opvang van de nabestaanden van vlucht MH17. [...]In het hele land hebben burgemeesters inmiddels persoonlijk hun medeleven betuigd bij de familie en naasten van de overledenen.

Hoewel er voor geen enkele ramp een pasklaar draaiboek klaarligt, helpt het Nederlands Genootschap van Burgemeesters de lokale bestuurders een eindje op weg.

The tent of stories is a method of engaging refugee children in storytelling and social interaction. Through the tent and a ‘story-stone’ a safe and structured environment is created. This article focuses on the psychological consequences ofoppression in the form f caste-based discrimination in India. These psychological consequences are described as processes in the minds of oppressed people, processes that are often unconscious.

In this article a form of psychotherapy for trauma-tised children and adolescents (KIDNET) is described. This approach is based on Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), a short-term treatment method for traumatised adults. The description of KIDNET is illustrated with a detailed report of the successful treatment of a severely traumatised 13-year old refugee child

In this article we describe our experiences with the development of mental health raining modules for doctors, nurses, midwives and village health volunteers in the context of a general basic health care programme in Eastern Afghanistan. The article contains references to resources to be used by developing mental health care training modules for health workers.
