Abstract.
Background
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) frequently co-occur after traumatic experiences and share neurocognitive disturbances in verbal memory and executive functioning. However, few attempts have been made to systematically assess the role of a comorbid MDD diagnosis in neuropsychological studies in PTSD.
Objective

Imaginal exposure is an essential element of trauma-focused psychotherapies for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Exposure should in particular focus on the “hotspots,” the parts of trauma memories that cause high levels of emotional distress which are often reexperienced. Our aim was to investigate whether differences in the focus on hotspots differentiate between successful and unsuccessful trauma-focused psychotherapies. As part of a randomized trial, 45 PTSD patients completed brief eclectic psychotherapy for PTSD.

Toelichting: In deze bijblijfsessie zal een drietal belangrijke evidence-based psychotherapeutische methoden voor de behandeling van de posttraumatische stressstoornis (ptss) worden besproken. Het gaat om narrative exposure therapy (net), het Kort Eclectisch behandelingsprotocol voor ptss (kep) en eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (emdr). Er zal vooral worden ingegaan op de behandeling van complexe patiënten, die te maken hebben gehad met oorlog, vervolging, geweld en/of beroepsgerelateerd trauma.

Objective Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has major public health significance. Evidence that PTSD may be associated with premature senescence (early or accelerated aging) would have major implications for quality of life and healthcare policy. We conducted a comprehensive review of published empirical studies relevant to early aging in PTSD.
