Psychometric properties of the Children’s Revised Impact of Event Scale (CRIES-8) among refugee adolescents from Afghanistan, Syria, and Somalia

Background: High levels of post-traumatic stress are well documented among refugees. Yet, refugee adolescents display high heterogeneity in their type of trauma and symptom levels.

Objective: Following the recurrent plea for validated trauma screening tools, this study investigated the psychometric properties of the Children’s Revised Impact of Event Scale (CRIES-8) among refugee adolescents from Afghanistan (n = 148), Syria (n = 234), and Somalia (n = 175) living in Europe.

Identifying post-traumatic stress symptom typologies in clinical and non-clinical healthcare staff : a latent profile analysis

Background: There has been growing concern regarding increasing levels of post-traumatic stress (PTS) symptoms experienced by healthcare workers (HCW) in the UK, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: PTS symptom typologies have been investigated in other adult populations using person-centred latent variable approaches, revealing profiles showing differing symptom levels and patterns. We aimed to explore typologies among clinical and non-clinical healthcare staff to elucidate heterogeneity of presentation.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment in the medical setting : a systematic review

Background: Literature points towards the potential benefits of the application of Eye Movement and Desensitization Processing (EMDR)-therapy for patients in the medical setting, with cancer and pain being among the domains it is applied to. The field of applying EMDR-therapy for patients treated in the medical setting has evolved to such an extent that it may be challenging to get a comprehensive overview.

Differential constellations of dissociative symptoms and their association with childhood trauma – a latent profile analysis

Background: While several studies documented a positive correlation between childhood maltreatment severity and dissociation severity, it is currently unknown whether specific dissociative symptoms cluster together among individuals with childhood trauma histories ranging from none to severe.

Objective: We aimed to explore symptom constellations across the whole spectrum of dissociative processing from patients with severe dissociative disorders to healthy controls and relate these to maltreatment severity and sociodemographic characteristics.

Response of patients with complex forms of PTSD to highly intensive trauma treatment : A clinical cohort study

Objective: Although highly intensive trauma treatment programs show promising results in the treatment of patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), it remains uncertain if patients with complex forms of PTSD can benefit equally from these intensive programs. To investigate whether patients with the dissociative subtype of PTSD (PTSD + DS) and patients with probable complex PTSD (CPTSD) draw equal benefits from a highly intensive trauma treatment program as patients with PTSD.

Psychological sequelae following second-trimester termination of pregnancy : A longitudinal study

Introduction: The decision to terminate a pregnancy due to fetal anomalies can have a significant emotional impact, especially in second-trimester terminations. Previous studies on the psychological consequences of pregnancy termination have had limitations, and little is known about the outcomes for partners and the impact of fetal donation. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the psychological effects of secondtrimester pregnancy termination and identify factors associated with outcomes in both women and men, including donation of fetal remains to science.

Innovating Support For Women Who Experience Intimate Partner Violence And Abuse : The development, implementation, and evaluation of the self-support eHealth intervention SAFE

This thesis describes the studies conducted into the development and evaluation of the Dutch SAFE eHealth intervention for women who experience(d) intimate partner violence and abuse (IPVA). IPVA is a type of domestic violence and abuse (DVA) that occurs frequently in society but that is often accompanied by stigma, complicating the help seeking process. With the internet being able to offer anonymity and easy, low threshold accessibility, an online platform could be a suitable means of reaching women who experience IPVA and support them, for example in help-seeking.
