Secondary traumatization in first responders : a systematic review

Background: Finding precise definitions of secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization, and compassion fatigue is not easy. While some researchers define these terms differentially, others use them interchangeably. In the present review, we refer to all three phenomena as secondary traumatization.

Objectives: This systematic review aims to provide an overview of prevalence rates of secondary traumatization in first responders and to shed light on corresponding resilience and risk factors.

When the Village Gets Bombed : Parenting in the Aftermath of War and Refuge

This dissertation aimed to unravel how parenting practices take shape in the aftermath of war and refuge. A mixed-methods systematic review and meta-analysis using meta-analytical structural equation model (MASEM; k = 38, N = 55,000) showed that war-exposure casts its effects on children’s internalizing and externalizing problems partly directly, and partly indirectly through reduced parental warmth and increased harshness, but not through reduced or increased behavioral control.

Development and psychometric evaluation of the Transdiagnostic Decision Tool : matched care for patients with a mental disorder in need of highly specialised care

Background
Early identification of patients with mental health problems in need of highly specialised care could enhance the timely provision of appropriate care and improve the clinical and cost-effectiveness of treatment strategies. Recent research on the development and psychometric evaluation of diagnosis-specific decision-support algorithms suggested that the treatment allocation of patients to highly specialised mental healthcare settings may be guided by a core set of transdiagnostic patient factors.

Treatment response and treatment response predictors of a multidisciplinary day clinic for police officers with PTSD

Objective: Police officers typically face multiple potentially traumatic events and consequently have a higher conditional probability of developing PTSD. Although most police officers with PTSD benefit from first-line treatment, it is unknown whether recommended intensification of treatment for low responders is effective and which factors contribute to response. This study aimed to examine the treatment response of a day clinic for police officers with PTSD and identify predictors of treatment response.

Long-term development of post-traumatic stress symptoms and associated risk factors in military service members deployed to Afghanistan : Results from the PRISMO 10-year follow-up

Background
Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can manifest several years after trauma exposure, and may impact everyday life even longer. Military deployment can put soldiers at increased risk for developing PTSD symptoms. Longitudinal evaluations of PTSD symptoms in deployed military personnel are essential for mapping the long-term psychological burden of recent operations on our service members, and may improve current practice in veterans’ mental health care.
