A randomized controlled trial of targeted vs. General direct-to-consumer marketing to address psychotherapy attitudes and stigma in military service members and Veterans

Many military service members and Veterans who experience a psychological need do not seek psychotherapy, which may be due to negative attitudes and stigma toward mental health services. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of a general vs. military-specific direct-to-consumer psychotherapy marketing video to address psychotherapy attitudes in a nationwide sample of military service members and Veterans (N = 262).

Traumatised youth harbour feelings of revenge : investigating the association between PTSD symptomatology, vengeance, and willingness to forgive among the Congolese adolescent refugees in Uganda

Background: Prolonged conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have caused widespread psychological trauma among civilians leading to maladaptive coping strategies across generations. Despite this occurrence, empirical studies on the prevalence of trauma and its impact on attitudes towards revenge and forgiveness, particularly among the youth, are scarce. This study aims to clarify the relationship between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptom severity and the desires for forgiveness and revenge among Congolese adolescents residing in Uganda.

 

High rates of probable PTSD among Ukrainian war refugees : the role of intolerance of uncertainty, loss of control and subsequent discrimination

Background: Intolerance of uncertainty is a well-known predictor of post-traumatic stress symptoms following a traumatic event. At the same time, it is relatively unknown whether intolerance of uncertainty amplifies the effects of other adverse life events on PTSD symptoms among traumatized individuals.

 

Objective: This article addresses this problem in a study of Ukrainian war refugees’ experiences with post-migration discrimination and powerlessness (loss of control).

 

The prevalence of lifetime trauma and association with physical and psychosocial health among adults at the end of life

Background

National guidelines recognize lifetime trauma as relevant to clinical care for adults nearing the end of life. We determined the prevalence of early life and cumulative trauma among persons at the end of life by gender and birth cohort, and the association of lifetime trauma with end-of-life physical, mental, and social well-being.

 

Methods

Bersiapkampen

Tijdens de na-oorlogse periode (1945-1947) zaten in het voormalig Nederlands-Indië vele Nederlanders gevangen in ex-Japanse kam­pen, Opvangkampen of Republikeinse kampen; deze kampen zijn  hier samengevat onder de naam van Bersiapkampen.

 

Per kamp worden de belangrijkste gegevens vermeld, zoals de lig­ging van het kamp, de in- en uitgaande transporten, een platte­grond, foto’s of tekeningen, alsmede de bestaande literatuur. Van sommige kampen zijn naamlijsten beschikbaar.

Japanse burgerkampen

Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden in het voormalig Neder­lands-Indië in de periode maart 1942 - augustus 1945 ongeveer 100.000 Nederlandse burgers geïnterneerd. De mannen werden ge­schei­den van de vrouwen en kinderen. Vanaf 1944 werden jongens, ouder dan 10 jaar,  ondergebracht in de mannen­kampen of in aparte jongens­kampen.

De dynamiek tussen psychiatrische stoornissen, radicalisering en extremisme; kwetsbaarheden en risicomanagement

Achtergrond: Een deel van de mensen die radicaliseren, heeft psychische klachten en een deel van de mensen die overgaan tot extremistisch geweld is eerder in contact met de ggz geweest. De vraag is hoe psychopathologische kenmerken van invloed kunnen zijn op radicalisering en wat ggz-professionals hierin kunnen doen.

 

Doel: Inzicht geven in de interactie tussen psychiatrische stoornissen, radicalisering en extremisme en beschrijven hoe ggz-professionals kwetsbaarheden kunnen integreren in behandelingen.

 

Increase in short-term and long-term stress-associated mental illness after Jiji earthquake in Taiwan : A twenty-year longitudinal population-based cohort study (1999–2019)

Highlights

•  Earthquakes cause profound physical and mental health impacts in human history.
•  Affected adults face about twice the risk of short-term stress-related psychiatric disorders.
•  Risk of PTSD is significantly higher in adults affected by earthquakes.
•  Middle-aged males (40-64 years) show higher rates of stress-related mental illnesses short-term (<1 year) and long-term (up to 20 years)
