Outbreak management : towards a model for the next crisis

Outbreaks of infectious diseases have increasingly led to crises in recent decades. These crises are often very complex. There are many disciplines involved, the effects extend internationally, there is pressure, there are scientific uncertainties and there is talk of changing social perceptions. In the past, e.g. the outbreak of SARS, has shown that in crisis, it is not sufficient to publish advice and guidance and disseminate it to the professionals in the field. It turns out that the various components of the control chain are not sufficiently linked to each other. Aura Timen, PhD student, conducted research from different perspectives, on the generic components in crisis management. She presents a model comprising: a tool for the development of guidelines crisis, the barriers in the performance seen from the professionals and the impact of the measures for patients. This model can be used to effectively improve crisis management. For patients to whom the measures apply, this system offers a guarantee that the crisis counseling is reliable, accurate and transparent.
