Hoe is de complexe relatie tussen de herinneringscultuur rondom de Holocaust en de Nederlandse steun voor zowel de staat Israël als de Palestijnse strijd tot stand gekomen? Volgens Laura Almagor ligt het antwoord op die vraag in de ideologische spanningen van de Koude Oorlog.

The outbreak of the Israel–Hamas war on October 7, 2023, has presented unprecedented challenges to older adults’ mental health, including increased posttraumatic stress, anxiety, and depression. The current study examined potential war- and age-related factors associated with probable posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), clinical depression (probable depression), and generalized anxiety disorder (probable anxiety) among older adults during the ongoing war.

Introduction
Youth affected by displacement are at risk for anxiety and depression. Supervised sport programs are a potentially effective strategy, however trials from displacement contexts are lacking.
 

Objective: Veterans returning from deployment have high rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and co-occurring alcohol use disorder (AUD). Current treatments for PTSD and AUD report high dropout rates, and many veterans report alcohol misuse to cope with symptoms of PTSD. The present study is a pilot randomized controlled trial in which veterans (N = 201) were randomized to receive a mobile mindfulness-based intervention enhanced with brief alcohol intervention content (Mind Guide) or an active stress management program.

De commissie Testaangelegenheden Nederland (cotan) bezint zich op haar doel en rol.Daarom worden tijdelijk geen tests ter beoordeling aangenomen. Willem Koops c.s. zien de cotan als ‘de belangrijkste verbindende schakel tussen praktiserende psychologen en onderzoekers’. Zij doen suggesties voor ‘noodzakelijke stappen om de toekomst van de cotan veilig te stellen’.

Achtergrond: In recente jaren is er op verschillende onderzoeksdomeinen in de psychiatrie vooruitgang geboekt, van behandelingen met (es)ketamine tot grootschalige genetische studies.

Doel: In kaart brengen van enkele wetenschappelijke ontwikkelingen die mogelijk hun weerslag zullen vinden op de dagelijkse klinische praktijk of dat al doen.

Achtergrond: De zorg voor mensen met psychische aandoeningen is de afgelopen decennia enorm verbeterd, maar er zijn ook nog teveel mensen die niet of te laat herstellen.

Doel: Doen van aanbevelingen om psychologische behandelingen verder te verbeteren.

Methode: Bespreken van relevante literatuur.

The primary aim of this study was to investigate the experiences of Dutch children whose parents joined the SS or NSB (a political party that collaborated with Nazi Germany) during World War II, linked to their childhood, adulthood or both. As a secondary aim, it explored the recommendations of these -now elderly- children of NSB and SS members for the (re)integration of minor returnees from the caliphate, who also grew up in a war situation with radicalized parents and have to deal with considerable prejudice and different norms and values upon their (re)integration into Dutch society.

Background: Somatic symptoms, such as chronic pain, fatigue, and gastrointestinal disturbances, are commonly reported in individuals with a history of childhood maltreatment (CM), which includes various forms of abuse and neglect experienced before age 18. Although CM is strongly associated with somatic symptoms, the specific relationships between CM subtypes and these symptoms, as well as the mechanisms connecting them, remain insufficiently understood.
