BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: There is evidence that intolerance of uncertainty (IU) is associated with elevated post-traumatic stress (PTS) symptoms. There is a scarcity of research examining whether IU is prospectively related to PTS following exposure to negative life events. Using data from a Dutch student-sample, we examined the degree to which IU predicts post-traumatic stress symptoms associated with negative stressful life events (analogue posttraumatic stress (PTS)).

DESIGN: This was a prospective survey-study.

ACHTERGROND

Historisch onderzoek naar het gebruik van psychedelica in specifieke religieuze contexten kan een rationele verklaring bieden voor extreme visionaire ervaringen die anders aanleiding zouden zijn de geestelijke gezondheid van de betrokkenen in twijfel te trekken. Als historici de psychedelische factor daarentegen negeren of over het hoofd zien, dan kan dat leiden tot een indruk van ‘irrationaliteit’ waar het in werkelijkheid gaat om normale en zelfs voorspelbare reacties van geestelijk gezonde mensen op de werking van specifieke psychoactieve stoffen.
