Mitigating Moral Distress in Dementia Care : Implications for Leaders in the Residential Care Sector

In 2012, the World Health Organization estimated that the number of people living with dementia worldwide was approximately 35.6 million; they projected a doubling of this number by 2030, and tripling by 2050. Although the majority of people living with a dementia live in the community, residential facility care by nursing providers is a common part of the dementia journey in most countries.

Childhood trauma and bullying-victimization as an explanation for differences in mental disorders by sexual orientation

Sexual minority individuals are more likely to have mental disorders, including mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders, compared to heterosexual individuals. Whether experiencing trauma or bullying-victimization during childhood explains these differences is currently unclear. We used a psychiatric epidemiological general population-based study to assess whether childhood trauma severity and bullying-victimization before age 16 explains the difference by sexual attraction in mental disorders.

Successful elements in refugee support and learning through exchange : Lessons learned from Access to Employment and MHPSS approaches in the Netherlands, Ethiopia and Jordan

In the Netherlands and in the regions of origin, many actors are involved in supporting asylum seekers and refugees: in the field of access to work and income and access to mental health care and psychosocial support (MHPSS). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (MFA-NL) is actively involved in supporting humanitarian and development programs implemented by various (inter)national and local actors in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. Many actors in the Netherlands work on themes to support asylum seekers and refugees in the Netherlands.

Mental health risks differentially associated with immunocompromised status among healthcare workers and family members at the pandemic outset

The mental health of healthcare workers (HCWs) is critical to their long-term well-being and future disaster preparedness. Goal 1 of this study was to identify rates of mental health problems experienced by HCWs. Goal 2 was to test a model of risk stemming from pandemic-related stressors and vulnerability factors.

Long-term outcomes of psychological treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder : a systematic review and meta-analysis

Several types of psychological treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are considered well established and effective, but evidence of their long-term efficacy is limited.

A Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness of EMDR and TF-CBT in Reducing Trauma Symptoms and Externalizing Behavior Problems in Adolescents

This multi-level meta-analysis tested if evidence-based trauma treatment was effective in reducing trauma symptoms and externalizing behavior problems in adolescents. Based on eight independent samples and 75 effect sizes, results indicated that Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) had a large and significant overall effect (d = 0.909) on reducing trauma symptoms and externalizing behavior problems.

Impact of comorbid personality disorders on psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder : systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: This constitutes the first meta-analysis investigating whether patients with and without comorbid personality disorders can equally benefit from psychotherapy for PTSD.

Method: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, PsychINFO and Cochrane databases from inception through 31 January 2020, to identify clinical trials examining psychotherapies for PTSD in PTSD patients with and without comorbid personality disorders (PROSPERO reference CRD42020156472).
