Summary: With regard to the trauma, the fixation on the fact, the phenomenon, placed in prominent position, should not minimize its particularity or the logic of trauma. Indeed, all is not traumatic, even though many situations are, in many ways 'traumatizing'. The issue of 'traumatic encounter' thus relates the following feature: it is the encounter of something, for someone, that makes trauma. This encounter involves indeed coordinates, determinants, whether factual or subjective. But the assumed 'linearity' of any encounter may be invoked against a 'discontinuity', opposing the basic logic of the cause-effect sequence. If the traumatic encounter is not without consequences, we must consider what particularizes both what precedes it, and what succeeds: within and beyond the event
