Adult refugees’ perspectives on the impact of trauma and post-migration hardships on learning

Background: Research shows that adult refugees’ well-being and future in the reception country heavily depend on successfully learning the host language. However, we know little about how adult learners from refugee backgrounds experience the impact of trauma and adversity on their learning.

 

Objective: The current study aims to investigate the perspectives of adult refugee learners on whether and how trauma and other adversity affect their learning.

 

Dissociative Subtype of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and its Correlates Among Treatment-Seeking Refugees

The dissociative subtype of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD-DS) denotes a severe type of PTSD associated with complex trauma exposure and psychiatric comorbidity. Refugees may be at heightened risk of developing PTSD-DS, but research is lacking. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine PTSD-DS and its demographic, trauma-related, and clinical correlates among a convenience sample of refugee patients over 18 years old who were diagnosed with PTSD according to DSM-5.

Psychometric Evaluation of the Traumatic Grief Inventory-Self Report Plus (TGI-SR+) in Chinese Bereaved People.

Objective

The Traumatic Grief Inventory-Self Report Plus (TGI-SR+) measures the most recent prolonged grief disorder (PGD) symptom sets defined in the 11th edition of the International Statistical of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11) and the text revision of the fifth edition of the Diagnostical and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR). However, the TGI-SR+ has not yet been translated and validated in Chinese. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese translation of the TGI-SR+.

 

 

Social support and (complex) posttraumatic stress symptom severity : does gender matter?

Background: Perceived social support is an established predictor of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after exposure to a traumatic event. Gender is an important factor that could differentiate responses to social support, yet this has been little explored. Symptoms of complex PTSD are also common following trauma but have been under-researched in this context. Large scale studies with culturally diverse samples are particularly lacking.

Every year, millions of people are affected by humanitarian crises. With a growing population of people affected, the need for coordination and integration of services aiming to improve the effectiveness of mental health and psychosocial support also grows. In this study, we examine how psychological interventions in humanitarian settings globally have been implemented through integration into programming outside of formal healthcare delivery through multisectoral integration.

Predictors of study dropout in cognitive-behavioural therapy with a trauma focus for post-traumatic stress disorder in adults : An individual participant data meta-analysis

Background Available empirical evidence on participant-level factors associated with dropout from psychotherapies for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is both limited and inconclusive. More comprehensive understanding of the various factors that contribute to study dropout from cognitive-behavioural therapy with a trauma focus (CBT-TF) is crucial for enhancing treatment outcomes.

 

Video-feedback intervention to promote positive parenting and sensitive discipline in early elementary education (VIPP-School) : a randomized controlled trial

The VIPP-SD (Video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline) program has been shown to promote positive interactions between parents and children with behavior problems. This study evaluated an adapted version for teachers (VIPP-School) through a parallel-group randomized controlled trial involving 58 teacher–child dyads from kindergarten to second grade. Teacher–child dyads were randomly assigned to VIPP-School (n = 28) or an active control group (n = 30).
