De problematiek van secundaire traumatisering bij hulpverleners steekt het laatste decennium steeds vaker de kop op en wordt soms verward met het fenomeen van reactivatie van primaire traumatisering bij mensen die zonder voldoende introspectie naar hun eigen levensverhaal in de hulpverlening aan traumagetroffenen stappen. Aan de hand van het bekende boek ‘Compassion Fatigue’ van Charles Figley (2005) wordt inzicht verschaft in secundaire traumatisering.

Psychotraumatische ervaringen komen veel voor, ook bij de Nederlandse bevolking. Een dergelijke traumatisch gebeurtenis is een gebeurtenis, waarbij iemand een levensbedreigende situatie meemaakt, of een gebeurtenis die de lichamelijke integriteit kan schenden. Het gaat dus duidelijk verder dan een ‘ernstige gebeurtenis’, maar om onder meer seksueel misbruik, aanranding en verkrachting, oorlogservaringen, levensbedreigende overvallen, oorlogservaringen, gijzelingen en lichamelijk geweld zoals mishandelingen en martelingen (DSM-5).

Abstract

STUDY OBJECTIVE:

This study investigated the relation between heat and mortality in London to determine the temperature threshold at which death rates increase and to quantify the effect of extreme temperatures on mortality.

DESIGN:

Daily data on all cause mortality and temperature were obtained for a 21 year period and the relation between them investigated both graphically and by using non-parametric time series methods of analysis.

Greater London.
