Rutte maakt excuses aan Joodse nabestaanden, Amsterdam wil excuses maken voor de slavernij. Kan dat? Filosoof Paul van Tongeren bepleit te erkennen dat we deel uitmaken van gemeenschappen, of we willen of niet. 

Van Tongeren vindt de filosofie van nut, door vragen te stellen in een veld met enkel standpunten. Zoals; kunnen alleen daders excuses aan slachtoffers maken? Wat betekent het als excuses tot stand komen op basis van ­debat, wetenschappelijk onderzoek en politieke besluitvorming? Worden ze beperkt door mogelijke juridische effecten? Wat zijn excuses eigenlijk?

Honderden Joodse baby’s en peuters werden tijdens de oorlog naar Friesland gebracht, vaak door jonge studentes. De ‘smokkelbern’ (Fries voor smokkelkinderen) werden ze genoemd.

Objective

To determine whether World Trade Center (WTC)‐exposure intensity and post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are associated with subjective cognitive change in rescue/recovery workers.

Method

Objective: Involuntary job loss can lead to symptoms of complicated grief (CG), depression, and anxiety. Information about the temporal linkage between these symptoms is limited and may have implications for the treatment of those suffering from mental health complaints after dismissal. The aim of this study was to explore the possible reciprocal relationships between symptoms of CG, depression, and anxiety following involuntary job loss.

Crises and disasters can seriously affect the health, well-being and functioning of the people involved. From a governance perspective, it is important that public leaders and crisis managers are aware of what the psychosocial dimension of crisis management entails. The objective of the current contribution is to analyse dilemmas and challenges described in evaluations of crises that occurred in the Netherlands between 2012 and 2016.

De Nederlandse zorg is van hoge kwaliteit en patiëntveiligheid staat al vele jaren hoog op de agenda. Toch gaat het soms mis en is er sprake van een calamiteit. Het is van belang om bij een calamiteit de patiënt en/ of diens naasten zo goed mogelijk op te vangen, de gevolgen van de schade zo veel mogelijk te beperken en inzicht te geven in het verloop en oorzaken van de gebeurtenis.

Background: Military families can experience unique stressors that may contribute towards poorer well-being among the spouses/partners of Service personnel. However, there is little UK research regarding mental health or alcohol consumption among this population.

Objective: This study examined mental health outcomes (probable depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)) and alcohol consumption among UK military spouses/ partners compared to women in the general population. Associations with military and socio-demographic characteristics were examined.

Background: Emotion regulation difficulties are common among individuals from refugee backgrounds. Little is known, however, about whether there are specific patterns relating to the types of emotion regulation strategies commonly employed by refugees, nor how this relates to psychopathology. Moreover, wider literature on emotion regulation has primarily focused on examining specific emotion regulation strategies in isolation, rather than patterns of emotion regulation across multiple strategies.

This study aimed to assess post-traumatic stress symptoms and vicarious traumatization (VT) versus post-traumatic growth (PTG) among Israeli practitioners who shared war-related reality with their clients during the Second Lebanon–Israel war (2006). In addition, the contribution of potency (one’s personal resource) and the role of peri-traumatic dissociation (the emotional detachment activated during or immediately after a traumatic event) were examined.
