MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for posttraumatic stress disorder : A promising novel approach to treatment

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment guidelines have unequivocally designated psychotherapy as a first-line treatment, despite well-documented neurobiological alterations in this disorder [1]. Even with psychotherapy, PTSD often remains chronic and severe. There is urgency to discover novel compounds and new treatment strategies for PTSD.

Post-traumatic stress disorder and dementia in veterans : A scoping literature review

ABSTRACT: Emerging research has found an association between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and dementia in veterans, yet little is known about the nature of this association and how it is conceptualized in the literature. The purpose of this scoping review is to understand how the relationship between PTSD and dementia in veterans is recognized and described in the peerreviewed literature. A scoping review was conducted using Arksey and O’Malley’s (International Journal of Social Research Methodology, 8, 19, 2005) framework.

The framing of 9/11 in the American, French, and Dutch public spheres (2001 - 2015) A contribution to the sociology of events

In this PhD thesis, I develop an inductive approach to studying events and apply it to the framing of 9/11 in the American, French, and Dutch public spheres, respectively, during the period from 2001 to 2015. By using a mixed methods combination of text analysis techniques, I research public sphere data (primarily national newspapers and legislative speeches) which include references to the Twin Tower attacks.

Politics, climate change, and earthquakes : Public perceptions of oil and gas impacts in Oklahoma

Research demonstrates that opinions about global warming and induced seismicity, earthquakes caused by human activity, are influenced by political party affiliation and ideology more than by education. Republicans and conservatives typically express less concern about environmental issues. One mechanism for how these factors shape opinion is through elite cues, wherein the prominent cultural, economic, and political voices associated with the major U.S. political parties provide guideposts that laypeople may use to form their opinions, particularly for complex social issues.

The Effectiveness of Cannabinoids in the Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): A Systematic Review

Objectives: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a potentially debilitating mental health problem. There has been a recent surge of interest regarding the use of cannabinoids in the treatment of PTSD. We therefore sought to systematically review and assess the quality of the clinical evidence of the effectiveness of cannabinoids for the treatment of PTSD.

Comparison of proposed diagnostic criteria for pathological grief using a sample of elderly bereaved spouses in Denmark : Perspectives on future bereavement research

Background: A distinct grief-specific disorder is included in the ICD-11. Lack of clarity remains regarding whether different proposed diagnostic criteria capture similar or different diagnostic entities. Our aim was to examine the specificity of four proposed diagnostic criteria-sets for pathological grief in a population-based sample.

Comparison of DSM-5 criteria for persistent complex bereavement disorder and ICD-11 criteria for prolonged grief disorder in help-seeking bereaved children.

Background: Persistent complex bereavement disorder (PCBD) is a disorder of grief that newly entered DSM-5. Prolonged grief disorder (PGD) is a disorder of grief included in ICD-11. No prior studies examined and compared the dimensionality, prevalence, and concurrent validity of both conditions among bereaved children.

The oxytocinergic system in PTSD following traumatic childbirth : endogenous and exogenous oxytocin in the peripartum period

Birth experiences can be traumatic and may give rise to PTSD following childbirth (PTSD-FC). Peripartum neurobiological alterations in the oxytocinergic system are highly relevant for postpartum maternal behavioral and affective adaptions like bonding and lactation but are also implicated in the response to traumatic events. Animal models demonstrated that peripartum stress impairs beneficial maternal postpartum behavior. Early postpartum activation of the oxytocinergic system may, however, reverse these effects and thereby prevent adverse long-term consequences for both mother and infant.

Oxytocin receptor gene methylation in male and female PTSD patients and trauma-exposed controls

Oxytocin receptor gene (OXTR) DNA-methylation levels have been associated with traumaexposure, mood- and anxiety disorders, and social processes relevant to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We hypothesized that OXTR methylation may play a role in the neurobiological underpinnings of PTSD. In the current study, we compared OXTR methylation between PTSD patients (n = 31, 14 females) and trauma-exposed controls (n = 36, 19 females).

Trauma and Public Mental Health : A Focused Review
