Intergenerational trauma, passed down through generations, is a significant concern for refugees and their descendants. Millions of people are forcibly displaced worldwide, with profound effects on mental and physical health. Background: High levels of post-traumatic stress are well documented among refugees. Yet, refugee adolescents display high heterogeneity in their type of trauma and symptom levels.

 

Objective: Following the recurrent plea for validated trauma screening tools, this study investigated the psychometric properties of the Children’s Revised Impact of Event Scale (CRIES-8) among refugee adolescents from Afghanistan (n = 148), Syria (n = 234), and Somalia (n = 175) living in Europe.

An agricultural field, a dangerous place for women : survivors of sexual violence’s experience ineastern democratic republic of Congo

This study investigates Congolese girls’ and women’s experience in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo concerning the rape they face during field activities. A qualitative approach was employed to collect data from 40 single young women and married women aged 18–45 years old. Four focus group discussions and 28 individual interviews were conducted among women survivors of sexual violence from the South and North Kivu provinces.

Development and validation of the caregiver-report version of the international depression questionnaire (IDQ-CG) and international anxiety questionnaire (IAQ-CG)

The International Depression Questionnaire (IDQ) and International Anxiety Questionnaire (IAQ) are self-report measures of ICD-11 single episode depressive disorder (DD) and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). The present study sought to describe the development and psychometric evaluation of the caregiver-report versions of the IDQ and IAQ for children, referred to as the IDQ-CG and IAQ-CG, respectively.

 

The mental health of Ukrainian refugees : a narrative review

There are currently over 6.5 million Ukrainian refugees worldwide and this number is growing. Previous research has highlighted refugees’ vulnerability and increased risk of developing mental health problems, and there has been a growing body of research focusing on Ukrainian refugees specifically since the Russo-Ukrainian war began in February 2022. The aim of this review is to explore the current literature on the mental health of Ukrainian refugees. A systematic search was carried out and identified 21 relevant papers that met inclusion criteria.
