Group Schema Therapy for Refugees with Treatment-Resistant PTSD and Personality Pathology

Introduction. Patients with complex forms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may benefit from schema therapy. While a small number of studies point to the effectiveness of individual schema therapy in refugees with PTSD, no evidence on group schema therapy (GST) in refugees exists. To illustrate and advocate for the use of GST in refugee patients with treatment-resistant PTSD and comorbid personality pathology, a case report is presented.

Internet- and mobile-based psychological interventions for post-traumatic stress symptoms in youth : a systematic review and meta-analysis

Psychological interventions can help reduce posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in youth, but many do not seek help. Internet- and mobile-based interventions (IMIs) show promise in expanding treatment options. However, the overall evidence on IMIs in reducing PTSS among youth remains unclear.

Maternal Trauma and Psychopathology Symptoms Affect Refugee Children’s Mental Health But Not Their Emotion Processing

Refugee children’s development may be affected by their parents’ war-related trauma exposure and psychopathology symptoms across a range of cognitive and affective domains, but the processes involved in this transmission are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the impact of refugee mothers’ trauma exposure and mental health on their children’s mental health and attention biases to emotional expressions.

How is trauma-focused therapy experienced by adults with PTSD? : A systematic review of qualitative studies

Background
Trauma-focused therapies (TFTs) are first-line treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, TFTs are under-utilised, partly due to clinicians’ and patients' fear that TFT is too challenging or harmful. We review the qualitative studies on how adults with PTSD experience TFTs to enhance the understanding of user perspectives, therapeutic processes, and outcomes.

EMDR v. other psychological therapies for PTSD : a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis

Background
This systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis (IPDMA) examined the overall effectiveness of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in reducing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, achieving response and remission, and reducing treatment dropout among adults with PTSD compared to other psychological treatments. Additionally, we examined available participant-level moderators of the efficacy of EMDR.

Methods

Effectiveness of trauma-focused art therapy (TFAT) for psychological trauma : study protocol of a multiple-baseline single-case experimental design

Introduction Treatments such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing and (narrative) exposure therapies are commonly used in psychological trauma. In everyday practice, art therapy is also often used, although rigorous research on its efficacy is lacking. Patients seem to benefit from the indirect, non-verbal experiential approach of art therapy. This protocol paper describes a study to examine the effectiveness of a 10-week individual trauma-focused art therapy (TFAT) intervention.

Exploring the feasibility and acceptance of huddinge online prolonged exposure therapy (HOPE) for severe and complex PTSD

Background: Trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy such as prolonged exposure is considered firsthand choice for treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but is seldom available in regular care. Digital therapy is proposed to bridge this gap, but its effectiveness for severe and complex PTSD is uncertain. The primary objective of the current study was to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of digital therapist-guided prolonged exposure (Huddinge Online Prolonged Exposure; HOPE).

The working mechanisms of imagery rescripting and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing : Findings from a randomised controlled trial

We studied the mechanisms of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and imagery rescripting (ImRs). We hypothesized that EMDR works via changes in memory vividness, that ImRs works via changes in encapsulated beliefs (EB), and that both treatments work via changes in memory distress. Patients (N = 155) with childhood-related posttraumatic stress disorder (Ch-PTSD) received 12 sessions of EMDR or ImRs. The vividness, distress, and EB related to the index trauma were measured with the Imagery Interview.

The German PCL-5 : evaluating structural validity in a large-scale sample of the general German population

Background: In attempts to elucidate PTSD, recent factor analytic studies resulted in complex models with a proliferating number of factors that lack psychometrical and clinical utility. Recently, suggestions have been made to optimize factor analytic practices to meet a refined set of statistical and psychometric criteria.

DNA methylation changes in association with trauma-focused psychotherapy efficacy in treatment-resistant depression patients : a prospective longitudinal study

Background: Stressful events increase the risk for treatment-resistant depression (TRD), and trauma-focused psychotherapy can be useful for TRD patients exposed to early life stress (ELS). Epigenetic processes are known to be related to depression and ELS, but there is no evidence of the effects of trauma-focused psychotherapy on methylation alterations.

Objective: We performed the first epigenome-wide association study to investigate methylation changes related to trauma-focused psychotherapies effects in TRD patients.
